Veterans' Recognition Program

Following the recent announcement of the Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant, the Veterans’ Recognition Program was launched by the Minister for Veterans and Defence Personnel, the Hon Darren Chester MP on 3 November 2019 as part of the Australian Government’s commitment to better connect veterans and their families to their local community following their service.

Council invites all local businesses in the Uralla Shire to participate in this initiative by way of providing a special offer, discount or concession for Veteran Card holders. Any method of support is encouraged: this could take the form of a percentage discount on retail goods and services, or any other type of offer or benefit at your discretion. As part of the initiative, the program also encourages businesses to accept the Veteran Card on sight, as this will make any offer more accessible for both the business and the veteran.

To enable easy access for Veteran Card holders, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs has partnered with the Australian Partners of Defence providing Veteran Card holders with access to over 500 businesses from around the country and this number continues to grow on a daily basis. Businesses can directly register their specific offers for Veteran Card holders at the Australian Partners of Defence website here. Registration is free and there is no ongoing cost to businesses.
