Celebrate Book Week 2020 at the Uralla Library
Published on 15 October 2020
The Uralla Library will celebrate the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week with a range of in-person and online events kicking off Saturday, 17 October.
Inspired by this year’s theme Curious Creatures, Wild Minds the Uralla Library has put together an exciting program of activities for Book Week 2020.
The highlight of the week will be a special Storytime for families on Tuesday, 20 October at 10:30am at the Uralla Library.
The Book Week Storytime will feature a number of children’s books, including a reading by Aunty Kathy Kelly of one of this year’s CBCA featured books Baby Business, illustrated by Jane Seymour. Baby Business tells the story of a Darug baby smoking ceremony that welcomes baby to country. Aunty Kathy’s Storytime reading will incorporate both Darug and Aniwan language to connect the listeners to country.
The Uralla Library is going digital with a ‘virtual’ library storytime. The virtual library storytime with Aunty Kathy will be available to stream during Book Week, and features the reading of Baby Business.
Uralla Shire Council Mayor, Cr Michael Pearce encouraged families to get involved.
“It might be more difficult for some families to visit the library these days, so having storytime online is a great way for families to keep connected and participate in Book Week activities from home.”
“The Uralla Library continues to offer a great variety of programs and activities to the community,” Mayor Pearce said. “The Book Week Storytime is a great initiative to connect our community to country and the traditional owners of the Uralla Shire, and I’d like to thank Aunty Kathy Kelly for giving these readings at the Uralla Library.”
To keep our community healthy, please remember to book in advance by phoning the Uralla Library on 6778 6470.
“It’s been a challenging year for all of us, and I’d like to thank the Uralla Library staff for their incredible work to keep the Uralla Library a welcoming and safe community hub for all the Shire.”
Aunty Kathy Kelly’s reading of Baby Business was recorded with permission from Magabala Books for Book Week 2020. The video will be available through the Council website at www.uralla.nsw.gov.au and the Council facebook page www.facebook.com/UrallaShireCouncil from 17-23 October.
All Book Week 2020 books, including Baby Business are available at the Uralla Library. To see all of the titles selected by CBCA for Book Week 2020, visit www.cbca.org.au/shortlist-2020
