Uralla Shire Council Awards Round One of its Community Grants Program

Uralla Shire Council approved two applications under Round One of its Community Grants 2019-20 Program at its meeting on 24th September 2019.

The Bundarra Men’s Shed will receive $3,000 to undertake improvements to the Workshop at the Vocational & Education Training Centre as well as correcting some existing WH&S issues and structural improvements at the venue.

The Bundarra Men’s Shed has formed a partnership with Bundarra Central School to develop and enhance the value of the school’s workshops. The building is a community owned asset which is run by the Bundarra Men’s Shed on behalf of the community.

“This will be a great asset to the Bundarra community,” Mayor Michael Pearce said. “Especially in these times of drought, it is so important for the community to have a place to come together.”

The enhanced facilities will allow the Bundarra Men’s Shed to run health and well-being programs as well as to provide professional assistance for the community. They also have plans to implement mentoring programs for children and provide fundraising opportunities for the community.

The Council on the Ageing NSW will receive $3,000 to train local exercise professionals to implement a sustainable exercise program for the aging in Uralla.  The program will use local people to support, promote and implement a sustainable program for ongoing classes to improve strength and balance for our aged population in the future.  The aim is to help them to stay independent longer.

“This program will enhance the health and well-being of the aged portion of the Uralla Shire community,” Mayor Pearce stated. “Council supports programs in our community which encourage activity and social interaction, which is a benefit not only to the participants but to their friends, family, and community. Ultimately, the benefit ripples outwards and is a good thing for all of us across our Shire.”

The training program is scheduled for February 2020.

The Council congratulates the successful applicants and looks forward to their continued work and the benefits that they bring to the Uralla Shire.
