Your Council

Welcome to Uralla Shire — a place where history, community, and opportunity come together.

Established under the Local Government Act and formally proclaimed in December 1947, Uralla Shire Council has been proudly serving its community since 1 January 1948. Today, Council has grown into a diverse and dynamic organisation managing over $300 million in community assets, delivering 32 services, and overseeing an annual budget of about $20 million.

The Uralla Shire local government area spans 3,229 square kilometres across the stunning New England region and is home to more than 6,000 residents who enjoy its unique blend of rural charm, natural beauty, and vibrant village life. At its heart is the township of Uralla, ideally positioned on the New England Highway —22 kilometres south of Armidale and 89 kilometres north of Tamworth.

Our Shire also includes a rich tapestry of localities, each with its own character and story, such as Abington, Arding, Bakers Creek, Balala, Boorolong, Briarbrook, Bundarra, Camerons Creek, Dangarsleigh, Dumaresq, Gostwyck, Invergowrie, Kentucky, Kentucky South, Kingstown, Mihi, Rocky River, Salisbury Plains, Saumarez, Saumarez Ponds, Torryburn, Wollun, and Yarrowyck.

Whether you’re a resident, visitor, or someone looking to learn more, we invite you to explore all that Uralla Shire has to offer.
