Uralla Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement open for feedback

Published on 12 February 2021

Uralla Shire Council has commenced the first review of the Uralla Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement and has placed the document on public exhibition to seek feedback and input from the community.

The first version of the Uralla Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) was adopted by Council at its extraordinary meeting held 29 September 2020 and is now open for public comment as part of Council’s review process.

The LSPS applies to the whole Uralla Shire local government area and is a key document to guide local strategic planning in the Uralla Shire by demonstrating how change will be managed and identifying local priorities for updating Council strategic documents such as the Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan.

To kick off the public exhibition, Council will hold two public consultation meetings.  One at the Uralla Memorial Hall on Thursday, 18 February and one at the Bundarra School of Arts Hall on Friday, 19 February 2021. Both sessions will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. To meet COVIDSafe guidelines, members of the public must register in advance to secure attendance at the meetings.

Uralla Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Pearce said feedback received during the public exhibition period would be a valuable source of information for Council to assist in shaping the evolution of the LSPS.

“The purpose of this document is to help Council serve the Uralla Shire community by planning for the next 20 years, so we want to hear from the community what Council should do moving forward to address our shared goals and priorities.”

“The LSPS is a living document and will be updated to meet the Shire’s evolving needs in the future on an ongoing, regular basis,” Mayor Pearce said.

“I would encourage any interested members of the community to come to one of the public consultation meetings to learn more and have any questions they might have answered.”

The LSPS sets a 20-year vision for land use in the Uralla Shire, describes the unique characteristics which contribute to the Uralla Shire local identity and shared community values, and is an important guide for future growth and change in the Uralla Shire.

The LSPS details plans for the Uralla Shire community’s economic, social and environmental land use needs over the next 20 years to 2040, and will be used by Council and other stakeholders to inform policy development, infrastructure planning, and delivery of services to the community.

To register to attend the public meetings, members of the public should email council@uralla.nsw.gov.au attention: Manager Development and Planning or can telephone Council on (02) 6778 6310.

The Local Strategic Planning Statement on public exhibition can be viewed at Council’s website at www.uralla.nsw.gov.au or on request at Council’s Administration Offices, 32 Salisbury Street, Uralla.  Written submissions can be made to Council until 5:00pm, Monday 19 April 2021.
