Council strengthens commitment to support local suppliers

At its December 2020 Ordinary Meeting, Council amended its Procurement Policy to include a preference for local businesses and suppliers using weighting criteria.

The amendment to the policy specifies a 5% local business weighting criteria for businesses whose registered business address is in the Uralla Shire, and a 2% weighting criteria for businesses in adjacent local government areas.

The amended policy is open for public comment for 28 days, following which submissions will be referred back to Council for consideration. If no substantive feedback is received, the policy will be adopted as amended.

Uralla Shire Acting Mayor, Deputy Mayor Cr Isabel Strutt said the policy amendment reinforces Council’s commitment to support local businesses and suppliers in its procurement dealings.

“Supporting local content is a central component of Council’s procurement policy, and is an important consideration along with the other key principles of the policy, such as value for money and sustainability, ethics and integrity, and risk management.”

“The policy amendment to include local weighting criteria strengthens Council’s preference to utilise local suppliers and stimulate the local economy.”

“Council is committed to supporting local suppliers as much as possible, where this does not conflict with probity principles and the procurement activities achieve a best value for money outcome for the Uralla Shire community,” Cr Strutt said.

As part of Council’s commitment to support local suppliers, tradespeople and contractors can register with Council to be notified of requests for quotes or expressions of interest as these instances arise.

Local suppliers who wish to register to work with Council are asked to submit their details to Council including relevant licences, insurances, evidence of work health and safety requirements and rates. Further information on how to register is available on Council’s website.

The amended Procurement Policy on public exhibition can be viewed at Council’s website at www.uralla.nsw.gov.au or on request at Council’s Administration Offices, 32 Salisbury Street, Uralla. Written submissions can be made to Council until 5:00pm, Thursday 21 January 2021.
