Published on 24 February 2021

Uralla Shire Council has engaged UNE Partnerships to deliver a free two-part disaster preparedness webinar for local businesses and to help develop business continuity plans based on Resilience NSW’s Get Ready Business framework.

The disaster preparedness training is funded by the NSW Government’s Bushfire Community Resilience and Economic Recovery Fund – Phase 1 funding program and part of Council’s commitment to deliver community capacity building projects and facilitating economic development in the Uralla Shire.

The disaster preparedness webinars will be presented by Peter Rekers, an internationally recognised leader in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.

The course will consist of two 90-minute webinars where participants will explore the importance of preparing their business, identify and understand risks, and learn how to create and implement a Business Continuity Plan.

Uralla Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Pearce said Council is encouraging all local businesses to take advantage of this free training opportunity.

“This short course will help local business owners prepare for any kind of disruption using the tools Resilience NSW’s Get Ready Business framework.”

“The training sessions will be conducted online via an interactive webinar to open up this opportunity to all businesses in the Shire.”

“Through this short course, participants will learn to identify risks to their business, to make an emergency action plan, prepare their business continuity plan and a recovery plan.”

“Small business owners who attend the webinars will be provided with all of the resources they need to make their own plans for disaster preparedness, connect with other businesses, and will have their questions answered during the webinar as Mr Rekers takes them through the process.”

“The online webinars will be recorded so that any business who might be unable to attend will be able to watch the training at a later date,” Mayor Pearce said.

Business owners can enrol for the course online at www.unep.edu.au/enrolment/bdr-ffs-2102.

The two training sessions will be held from 7:00pm to 8.45pm on Tuesday, 2 March 2021, and on Tuesday, 16 March 2021.
