Progress Made at Uralla Water Treatment Plant

Published on 09 April 2020

Water restrictions will be relaxed over the Easter break while upgrade works continue at the Uralla Water Treatment plant.

“We have now received delivery of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and repairs needed prior to the installation of the GAC are currently being undertaken at the Water Treatment Plant, ” Uralla Shire Council Acting General Manager, Mr Scott Phillips said.

“With test results of the treated water continuing to show arsenic levels below the 0.010mg/L Australian Drinking Water Guidelines we are still hopeful that the “Do Not Drink Alert” will be lifted in April,” Mr Phillips added.

Residents will be able to water lawns and gardens as well as wash their cars, driveways and houses from midnight on Thursday, 9th of April 2020 until 11:59pm on Monday, 13th of April 2020.  The unrestricted use of water over the Easter long weekend will assist in flushing the town’s reticulation system of any water with elevated levels of arsenic.

“We would also like to remind the community to follow some simple steps when collecting bottled water over the long weekend.  We ask residents to follow all Council staff directions, open their own car door or boot for staff to load water into and observe social distancing practices including maintaining 1.5m distance from other customers and staff,” Mr Phillips said.

Opening hours over the long weekend for the bottled water distribution station behind Foodworks Uralla will be:

Friday, 9th of April 2020 | Closed
Saturday, 10th of April 2020 | 8am-12pm
Sunday, 11th of April 2020 | Closed
Monday, 12th of April 2020 | 8am-4pm
