Uralla Town Water Supply Update - 30th December 2019

Published on 30 December 2019

Uralla Shire Council are continuing with work to optimise the operation of our water plant, with good results being achieved so far.  Work is continuing on the safe reduction of the arsenic present in the water supply and while we are having some success, unfortunately the problem persists and levels detected remain above the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines of 0.01 milligrams per litre.

Further work will be ongoing this week to meet these guidelines as soon as possible.

Uralla Shire Council’s Acting General Manager Mr David Aber said “I am very appreciative of how the community has reacted to the bottled water alert and the work that our volunteers and staff have put into distributing the water.  Well done to all involved”.

Mr Aber also wished to thank the businesses that are taking part in the water distribution effort.

Water levels at Kentucky Creek continue to drop significantly and Uralla Shire Council will be moving to level 5 restrictions in Uralla and Bundarra on Monday, 6th of January, 2020.

“It is critical that we conserve water to allow the community to get through the ongoing drought,” Mr Aber said.

Transporting of water from Laura Creek to Taylors Pond has commenced to assist Bundarra in managing the shortage of water in the river.  Repairs to the reservoir at Bundarra are coordinated to begin as soon as Council staff return to work after the holiday shutdown.

Further advice on progress and the move to level 5 water restrictions will be provided in the New Year.
