Raising Asbestos Awareness: Free Asbestos Testing Kits

No longer on display. Expired on 31 July 2022, 11:59 PM

Was your home built before 1990? It may contain asbestos. Residents who conduct their own renovations may come into contact with asbestos. An estimated 4,000 Australians die annually from asbestos-related diseases. There is no known safe minimum level of exposure to asbestos.

To raise awareness of the risks and assist with safe management or removal, Northern Inland Regional Waste (NIRW) has distributed a limited number of free household testing kits.

If you haven’t yet taken advantage of this program, there is a small number of remaining household testing kits available for collection from Council, however stocks are limited.

Uralla Shire residents and ratepayers can pick up a free testing kit by visiting Council's Customer Service Centre at 32 Salisbury Street, Uralla. Testing kits will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Asbestos testing can also be organised through any NATA-accredited laboratory.
