Councillor Tara Toomey was elected to Council in 2016. Councillor Toomey represents Ward A of the Uralla Shire.
My family moved to Uralla when I was 8 and with the exception of four years in Sydney in my mid 20's and a year living in America as part of a teacher exchange program with my family in 1994, I have lived here all my life. I returned from Sydney in 2003 and while working with my father on the construction of his home in Uralla I found a five acre block on the edge of town to purchase. In 2005 I married local Chartered Accountant, Andrew Toomey and in 2008 we welcomed our first child, Jacob. In 2012 our second child Helena arrived and we completed the construction of our own home shortly after.
My tertiary qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (1997) and then an Honours year (1998), followed by a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies (2005) at UNE. I was also the inaugural recipient of the Pan-Arcadian Scholarship in 1999 which involved working in Greece on an archaeological field survey project with a Scandinavian project team.
My most recent professional experience includes working as the Customer Relations Manager for the Insurance Australia Group (Sydney 2000-2003), Customer Services Manager at UNE (2004-2008) and then in my own businesses, Aurelia's Farm B&B (since 2012), Seasons of New England Pty Ltd (since 2013) and The Humble Cook (since 2018). Over the course of my working life I have been responsible for detailed budget development, analysis and forecasting, managing customer service units, feedback processes and improvement opportunities, consultation and change management.
I am committed to listening to the views of the Uralla Shire community and working towards outcomes that strengthen the social and economic future of the Shire as an independent Council.
