Expressions of Interest – Independent Members for the Aged Care Compliance and Assurance Committee Uralla Shire Council Applications close 5:00 PM on 6 June 2025

Uralla Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals for appointment as independent external members of the Aged Care Compliance and Assurance Committee (Committee).

The Committee will play a vital role in providing independent assurance, expert advice and oversight of compliance, risk and quality assurance processes as part of Council’s commitment to robust governance and regulatory assurance in its aged care services.


About the Committee

The Committee will support Council’s responsibilities as an approved aged care provider under the Aged Care Act 2024 and related legislation. The committee's main functions include:

  • Reviewing compliance reports from management.
  • Providing assurance that services meet clinical governance obligations.
  • Monitoring internal compliance frameworks and policies.
  • Referring any significant non-compliance to the governing body and other committees.

The Committee will meet at least four times per year, with meetings generally held in February, May, August and November. Additional meetings may be scheduled as required. The preference is that the Committee meets in person for all meetings at Council chambers, but in exceptional circumstances, virtual attendance for a member can be accommodated at in person meetings.

Appointments will be for a term of up to four years, subject to satisfactory performance and compliance with Council’s Code of Conduct.

Desired Skills and Experience

Council is seeking individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Independence, integrity and sound judgment;
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  1. Aged care service delivery or regulation;
  2. Clinical governance and aged care quality standards;
  3. Risk management and compliance frameworks;
  4. Health, community or human services;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A commitment to the values of transparency, resident wellbeing and continuous improvement;
  • The ability to contribute constructively to group deliberations and strategic discussions.

Applicants must be available to attend scheduled meetings and complete any required induction or training activities.

Members are expected to the review minutes of previous meetings and to review and analyse the reports presented in the business paper prior to each meeting and contribute proactively to discussion and enquiry at the meetings. Members are expected to maintain a working knowledge of the Aged Care Act 2024 and the relevant Aged Care Standards and applicable rules.


Remuneration

Independent members will be paid a meeting fee of $750 per meeting, with reimbursement for reasonable travel and accommodation costs in line with Council policy.

The Chair will be paid $1,000 per meeting.
